When it comes to creativity, I really don’t think the saying – 'You’ve either got it, or you haven’t' - applies; yes some people are more creative than others and some just don’t know how to colour outside the lines, but basically we all have ideas and imagination!
One of the companies that has creativity written all over them is Pixar and if you haven’t read their book – Innovate the Pixar Way - I suggest you go out and buy it; it will leave you brimming with creativity!
One of the chapters in the book is 'Forty-one Neat Things to Unleash your Imagination', which demonstrates that creative ideas can come from anywhere! One of the ‘neat things’ that stood out for me was the idea of establishing a Junior Brain Trust; looking at your problem through a child’s eye, a fresh approach.
And the story Pixar uses basically sums it up - a tall truck trying to pass through a tunnel in New York got stuck, engineers and experts debated for hours on how to remove the truck, with traffic backing up for miles. It wasn’t until a little girl in the nearby car shouted “Hey mister, why don’t you let the air out of the tyres,” they managed to move the truck.
