My first day Day to day What I learnt Recommendations to others

Hi, my name is Pawel Newby, I’m 15, and I chose to do my work experience with Energy PR.

When my school told me I had 1 week of work experience, I knew straight away that I wanted to do it with a PR agency, as I was (and still am) studying business for GCSEs. I quickly found Energy PR, and after a few messages I was in.

Work experience is like getting a free taster of what an adult job is like, so I had wanted to do it somewhere I had never thought of before, but somewhere I could still realistically work (also my uncle works there which influenced why I chose it).

My first day

I definitely felt nervous going into the first meeting at Energy PR, but the team was quick to welcome me to the morning briefing and it felt really inclusive.

I spent most of my time learning about PR and what Energy PR does for its clients.

Day to day

Each day I was assigned new tasks in the morning briefing, from video editing to press releases, to media research, each task was completely different. Some of these tasks, such as blogs (like this one), will hopefully go on to be published.

Each day was unique, and I used platforms I had never used before such as Canva, which ended up being easy to get used to.

What I learnt

I learnt many new things I had never heard of or done before, such as writing press releases, conducting research through TikTok, editing webinars on Canva, as well as many terms such as B2B and B2C.

I also gained many new experiences, such as daily meetings and overall what it is like to have a job.

I also learnt that PR is a lot more than what it seems, and that it is not just about making a business look good, but about helping them make the right reputational decisions in the current market.

Recommendations to others

If anyone else is thinking of doing work experience at a PR company, I say go for it! Working at Energy PR has been lots of fun and I have learnt a lot. It’s definitely more interesting than school, and you always have something to do!

The team were very welcoming and inclusive and for that I close by saying:

Thank you Energy PR!
