Why bother?

Networking can be a nerve-wracking prospect for anyone. But building and cultivating your personal network is absolutely crucial for every PR career.

It can help you grow your skillset, become more confident, improve client relationships and stay up-to-date with all the latest industry trends. And LinkedIn is one of (if not the best) tools you can use. So here are my top tips for using LinkedIn to build your PR network:

Who to add?

To grow your network, consider connecting with people from all walks of life.

Think outside the box. Look beyond the immediate future. Connections you make today could pop up again in 20 years time. Just make sure you’re only connecting with people that you really want to engage with.

Personally, my network includes:

  • Some friends and family
  • Uni lecturers and course mates
  • Former colleagues and managers
  • Past and current clients
  • PR industry figures and inspirational leaders
  • Suppliers and business-related companies
  • Influencers and media personalities
  • Peers in the PR industry

Beyond likes

Nurturing your PR network goes beyond just liking their posts. Here are my top tips for developing meaningful connections:

  • Introduce them to useful and inspirational people
  • Pass on business, ideas and events
  • Engage with posts for their benefit
  • Share interesting content with them
  • Share career tips
  • Invite them to events

The result?

If you connect and engage with the right people in the right way, you can build long-lasting relationships with a network who will be happy to support you both personally and professionally.

All you have to do is ask!
