Our insights and strategy services

Your audience

We’re people people. We love getting to know them – how they think, where they get their news from, what matters to them, what they’re excited by. We build personas that can actually be used to make smarter marketing and communications decisions.

The media

As you’d expect, as a PR agency, we know the media landscape. We know the journalists and titles writing about your sector. More importantly, we know which ones are read and rated. And we know how to work with them to make sure they’re talking about you.

Social listening

Because having an ear to the ground makes us better: more informed, more connected and more creative. What’s driving conversations, who’s leading them and what’s trending? We crunch the numbers and chatter to define where you fit in. But more than this, because we ‘get’ your brand we’ll identify the conversations you should own.

Search listening

No one knows us better than search engines, right? So what does your audience really want to know? Are there knowledge gaps? What are the most commonly Googled questions about your business, product or service? We size up in-demand topics and uncover gems of opportunity for more people to find you.

Keyword research

How your audience searches for your product all the way up the funnel informs your onsite and offsite strategy: that includes digital PR, onsite content, link building and media targets. We dovetail with your technical agency. You get an integrated approach to your SEO. Nice.

Searching for an agency that ‘gets you’ and will get cracking?

✨Meet the Energy PR team ✨

Congratulations to Beth for levelling up to Associate Director! 🎉 To celebrate, we decided to put her in the spotlight. We asked her some questions about her career and what she`s working on right now. Let’s get to know her better!

Which industries do you work in? 💻

I head up our B2C accounts so am lucky enough to work across a range of industries including home, family, technology, and events. I`m lucky enough to work with some fascinating B2B businesses too, including brands in the HR and property sectors.

What’s the most interesting campaign you`re working on right now? 🤩

We`re working with influencers for several clients which I always enjoy. Influencers are such a powerful tool for reaching ready-made engaged audiences and the creative process is very different to working with traditional media so these campaigns are always fun to be involved in.

What are the first three things you do every morning? ☀️

2. Check-in with the team
3. Read the morning`s headlines

Internal Communications Agency

Let your business shine bright, inside and out

microphone

What is internal communications?

The way you prioritise and deliver internal comms will reach far beyond the four walls of your business. Company culture and employer brand are now board-level priorities.

dots-pattern
people laughing

It has never been more important to keep employees informed and engaged with your company’s strategy, objectives and policies. Why? Consistent, clear and inspiring communication within your business fosters belonging, motivation and purpose: the foundation of happy teams.

And happy teams perform well, stay and thrive in your business. They become your biggest advocates both inside and outside of the business.

soundwave
Why is it important?

Internal communications have an intrinsic relationship with your external reputation

Because of things like Glassdoor reviews, and your customers’ interaction with your employees. If your team is happy and engaged, it will have a halo effect on your business.

But with remote and hybrid working, multi-generational workforces and all those other employee trends to grapple with, it’s easy to get your internal comms strategy wrong.

lightbulb

Our internal communications services

Basic internal information sharing is quite easy to manage for small businesses. But once you get above 10 employees, it gets complicated very quickly. We can help you define your long and short-term messages and methods of communication to keep your team informed and engaged.

We can help with everything from the big picture, like your company values, to the nitty gritty, like drafting your monthly internal newsletters.

Internal Communications Strategy

We can help develop your high-level  internal comms strategy, run workshops with senior leaders and help you define your brand values, positioning and internal comms roadmap.

Navigating change

Effective communication is business-critical during times of uncertainty, transformation and growth. We can help you create clear and consistent communication. You need all levels of the business to have buy-in and keep confidence high.

Reinforcing your company culture

Codifying your culture is a must, but only the beginning. Regularly celebrating and reinforcing it makes the difference between a poster on the wall and truly unlocking the business benefits of a strong culture. We can help you embed the culture in the way you communicate in all corners of your business.

Employee experience

From recruitment to the exit interview, and everything in between – employee experience is becoming as important as the customer journey. Internal communications need to be carefully mapped out and created for all key touchpoints.

Corporate social responsibility

The demand on businesses to demonstrate their CSR in an honest, meaningful way comes from customers, industry peers and employees. What level of participation do you need from your employees? How will you keep them informed, how can they contribute, and does it make them feel proud to do so?

Which channels to use

The right mix for your business can be determined by your employees’ preferences

How would they like to be communicated with, and how often? Ask them, test things and measure success. Like all good communication, it should be a two-way channel.

We can help you explore the best online and offline mix for your business. Face to face, think team meetings, town halls and feedback sessions run by leaders. Online, there’s an ever-growing list of ways to do this, from Slack and email to the intranet and social media.

Media Training

Control the narrative and build your brand

What is media training?

Media training teaches you how to effectively talk to the media – be it print, tv or radio. It will teach you what to say, how to say it, and give you the confidence to do it well.

dots-pattern
three people talking at work

Why is it important?

Because talking directly to the media is a great opportunity for your business, but one that comes with risk. When you’re in front of a journalist and a captive audience, you don’t want to get it wrong.

Interviews – especially broadcast – can feel like high stakes. Adrenaline is firing, questions can come from left field, and you have to think on your feet.

But, if you’re well prepared, you can ace them. Once you get good at media interviews, more opportunities will come along and that ultimately is a positive thing for you and your business.

Nobody wants a PR crisis, but they happen

They happen unexpectedly and can blow out of proportion on social media before you know what’s hit you. Acting swiftly and decisively makes all the difference

What is crisis management?

It’s about dealing with a sudden emergency that could cause significant reputational damage to your business.

Crises take many forms. It could be a serious accident at one of your sites, a product recall, a sensitive data breach or ransomware attack. It could also be an affronted ex-employee or supplier slating you on socials.

A crisis brings increased scrutiny from the media, customers, prospects, and stakeholders, leaving you with nowhere to hide. This has the potential to seriously impact your reputation.

Good crisis management, both on and offline, is all about containment, dampening its impact. Think damage control, providing reassurance and ending interest in the situation.

Social media is something that businesses, PR teams and marketers have been trying to tame for years

The pace of change is dizzying: it seems every week a new feature or platform is launching, algorithms are being updated and new topics trending. Still. Joy, opportunity and oh yes, business benefits await.

What are the benefits of social media marketing?

Brand-building

Think of your social presence as a living, breathing extension of your brand. A standalone asset. Whether that’s your social profile as a ‘destination’ or posts that show up in the feed: it all adds up to how people find, judge and remember you. We make it easy for them to do all three. Don’t forget, no one works for a company without checking their socials first. Make sure yours zing.

Community-building

A community is a powerful thing. It attracts people passionate about the same stuff, giving them somewhere to chat and share. And you’re in the thick of it because you’re making it happen. You’re vibing with your audience even when they aren’t buying, building followers and fans. You understand them and you make their feed a better place. Wonderful.

Sales-building

Social is increasingly an ecommerce tool, driving sales directly from the platforms. Even for service-led industries or B2B brands, it’s still a great way to capture sales data and leads.

Strategy

With social media marketing, you get out what you put in… and it all starts with the right strategy. It’s easy to just ‘be there’, but unless you’re there with purpose, you won’t get the benefits up for grabs. What are your objectives: what exactly are you trying to achieve with your social media?

  • A shop window, driving sales
  • A community-builder, deepening engagement with current and potential customers
  • A brand destination, showcasing your values, your products
  • Employer brand asset
  • … or something else?

This will inform the metrics you need to measure success – ranging from engagement rate through to speculative job applications.

Social media content and management

We do all the heavy-lifting: create monthly content calendars, craft copy, optimised social media assets, post… and let the results roll in.

Individual profile-building

Key C-Suite players are often time and – dare we say it – skill poor when it comes to social. We manage the profiles of individuals and take personal brands to the next level: we create content, post it and do community management too.

Training for your in house team

Influencer Marketing Services

Winning hearts and minds with influencers and creators

person smiling with oranges over eyes

pink and yellow graphic

When you hear ‘influencer marketing’, most people think of fashion brands and outrageous budgets

But, as a marketing tactic it’s so much more than that. No matter your sector or business, there’s a way influencer marketing can work for you.

dots-pattern

Our influencer marketing services

As a communications agency, we’ve been doing influencer marketing for years. Way before social media hijacked it. It’s all about understanding who influences your target audience and finding a way for them to authentically promote your business. We can help with:

  • Planning and strategy

  • Sourcing influencers and contract negotiation

  • Briefing, co-creation and end-to-end management of influencers

  • Measurement, tracking and reporting

  • Long-term relationship building and ambassador programme management

soundwave
Our audience-first approach

Firstly, we need to understand who you’re trying to influence

We get to know your audience, their point of view, their challenges, who they’re listening to, following and where they’re spending their time. The rest of the strategy flows from there: it’s the smartest way to spend your time and your budget.

person looking off to the side

Finding the right influencers

It’s not just about people on social media with huge follower counts that make the best influencers: it can be the niche, micro or nano-influencers that get the cut through and engagement to make your message fly.

Beyond this, your business may not need social media influencers but brand advocates. After all, your relationship with your audience may not play out on social channels.

Whether you’re looking to change perception, drive sales or fast-track a brand evolution, we find the perfect fit for your business.

person smiling in front of colourful wall
What are the key benefits of influencer marketing?

A smart and strategic influencer marketing program is an essential part of your marketing toolkit.

  • Change the way people think about you. ‘Borrow’ the qualities you admire and aspire to as a business through the people you choose to collaborate with.

  • Co-creation of content, campaigns and even strategy. Because content creation takes time, and great content creation takes even more time.

  • A direct line to your audience. No one understands them like they do.

  • Trust and credibility. You can tell everyone you’re great, but it just hits harder when someone else says it.

  • Product feedback and development.

  • A short-cut to conveying a brand personality if you get the influencer choice really right.

The untapped potential of B2B influencer marketing

Many companies that sell B2B overlook the possibilities of influencers or brand advocates. That’s why B2B influencers can be so powerful. They’re under-utilised and you have an attentive audience to work with. Business audiences are ultra-engaged: we consume a lot of content, and we pay attention right until the end if it helps us do our jobs better. We share it with colleagues on Slack and bookmark it for later.

A well aimed B2B influencer programme can deliver a lot of bang for your buck.

Content marketing. Such a dry phrase, isn’t it?

Especially given its potential to transform, educate, inspire and entertain.

It’s a marketing tactic that punches above its weight: benefits can be felt straight away and accumulate over time for serious long-term gains.

dots-pattern

Here are just a few reasons why it should feature in every business strategy:

  • Prove you’re the expert and build trust with your audience.
  • Improve SEO and increase your website traffic.
  • Educate, entertain and inspire your audience, then help them choose you, not a competitor.
  • Show who your business really is: your creative side, your storytelling and your wisdom. Naturally.
  • Great content attracts backlinks to your website that grow in value over time.

Why Energy? Our content marketing services

Strategy

A great content marketing strategy sits at the intersection of:

  • Your audience’s passions, challenges and/or knowledge gaps
  • Your areas of expertise
  • Demand: whether that’s on social, search or the media

We use audience insights, search data and more to perfectly position you at that intersection. You get an effective, long-term, multi-channel content strategy. Wonderful.

Content creation

Whether we’re creating content for a business or a consumer audience the same is true: we’re creating for people. And given that anyone, anywhere and their AI software can churn out content these days, we know that creating content for real humans to read is more important than ever. So that’s what we do.

The form that takes? It depends. How does your audience like to consume content?

As a communications agency, we’re damn fine at writing in all its forms: features, reports, blogs, white papers, social posts, landing pages and newsletters. Not only that, we have a keen eye (and ear) for multimedia content – creating killer assets for social media, infographics, webinars and podcasts too.

B2B and technical writing

We create content for some of the most complex, varied and technical audiences out there, turning our wordsmith-ery to subjects like architecture, renewable technologies, accountancy, AI, HR software, health and safety and engineering… to name just a few.

How content marketing supports SEO

Content and SEO are like best friends who champion each other

Having content on your site is a vital way to show your audience (and search engines like Google) your all important E-E-A-T credentials (Experience, Expertise, Authority and Trust).

Having a bank of content that answers people’s frequently asked questions, educates them about your product or uniquely inspires or entertains is powerful. It’s a long-lasting way to make sure more of the right people find, remember and come back to you.

glass overflowing with water

This is where knowing and understanding your audience is critical

Content is also the cornerstone of a winning Digital PR strategy: exceptional pieces of content become irresistible reasons-to-visit for your audience and reasons-to-link for journalists. And reasons-to-rank for search engines like Google.

Media Relations Agency

Strong, trusted relationships with your key media

Why is media relations so important?

Media relations is a vital part of managing your business’s reputation and growing your brand. It’s a specific, crucial subset of PR

dots-pattern
people smiling in a group

Media relations is the skillset by which journalists are encouraged to report positively about your business

Like sharing your interesting news, expert insight, or your opinions on a trending topic.

It matters because the media is a trusted source of information for your audiences. It influences the views and decisions of people important to your business – potential customers, investors, employees, suppliers. Getting the media to say positive things about your business isn’t easy to do, but it’s incredibly powerful.

It’s also a virtuous circle. The more you do, and the better you are at it, the more time and consideration the media will give you and your business – during the good times and the bad.

Our media relations services

As with everything we do at Energy PR, we take a relationships-first, audience-first approach to our media relations

Through rigorous research, we know which papers, magazines, blogs, podcasts, TV shows and radio programmes your target audiences enjoy. We don’t get coverage for the sake of it. We want media coverage that makes a difference.

We have strong, long-standing relationships with journalists, editors and other key influencers. We’re clever with ideas, and provide reliably excellent stories, data and insights. We will make you their go-to expert. The result? A buzz around your business among precisely the people you’re trying to reach.

  • Media audits
  • Media briefings and facilitating meet and greets with editors
  • Creating a matrix of issues and messaging for your company
  • Securing regular coverage in key media – including news generation and feature writing
  • Monitoring and measuring the success of coverage
  • Newsjacking and responding to relevant breaking news
  • Managing enquiries from journalists
  • Securing and organising interviews

What is the difference between PR and media relations?

Media relations is just one of many tools in the PR toolbox

It is about working with journalists to generate positive media coverage.

Public relations is broader than just media relations. It is about managing the relationship between a business and all its stakeholders. That could be the general public, customers, prospects, potential investors, employees, suppliers, government and trade bodies. Doing this might involve any number of tools and techniques. Creative campaigns

For when you want to command attention, change hearts and minds or ignite a conversation. Ideal for a product launch, at peak season for your industry, or just at a time when your natural company news has slowed.

Award entries and case studies

Need proof your business is brilliant? From researching influential industry awards to writing glowing award entries and case studies, we’ll help you get more of the recognition your business deserves.

Speaker opportunities

Want the chance to speak at someone else’s event? We’ll make that happen too.

What are the benefits of PR?

Brand awareness and brand-building for sales. Reach your audience not just when they’re in market but before it too, before they know who you are. Once they see you popping up in all the right places, saying things that resonate with, inspire or interest them, they’re more likely to remember you and buy from you.

Building employer brand. So that staff get what you stand for and why they want to stay with you, and would-be employees are inspired to join you.

Proactive and reactive reputation-building and management. Damage limitation in the eye of a media storm is one thing. Proactively building a good reputation is another: so people know who you are and what your business stands for.

person smiling

Credibility and trust. In a world where businesses can advertise almost anywhere, we’ve become immune to ads. That’s why everyone wants editors, influencers and experts to talk about their brands and businesses. It has more cut-through with the audience. It’s credible. It’s powerful. Understandably this is much harder to do than simply handing over the cash for advertising. But it’s undoubtedly better.

Support SEO and commercial objectives. Public relations professionals were building credibility and trust long before the internet came along. Even now, this is the criteria Google is looking for when deciding who to rank.

Impress potential investors. One of the first things they’ll do is look at your online presence and talk to others in the industry. So we make sure that when they do, you’re well-known, respected and showing up in all the right places.

Become a category leader. Own the conversation and steal the show from your competitors.

yellow liquid droplets

Sounds wonderful, but how do we measure it?

People say PR is hard to measure.

We disagree.

We report on immediate outputs: pieces of coverage, the domain authority, brand mentions, key messages, links – to name a few. We also track the outcomes that are influenced by our PR services like brand search, keyword positions, downloads, organic and direct traffic to your website. Staff feedback and metrics, audience sentiment, reviews, and anecdotal feedback can also be important measures to capture.

We love seeing the cumulative impact of our PR activity building and gaining momentum, and we love handing you meaningful data to tell your stakeholders and shape your future activity.

Why Energy PR?

We’re a PR agency that thrives in both the business-to-business and consumer PR world, and that’s thanks to our extremely talented team.

We’re no one-trick pony. There are no off-the-shelf programmes from us. We have a unique breadth of experience combined with an extensive PR service offering. So you get the right solution tailored specifically to deliver your needs.

No matter your industry, no matter your challenge

This means our brand of B2B and B2C PR is bang on – creative, rigorous and results driven.

Our digital PR services: we build relationships AND links

For us, it's more than just link building

Think about your brand’s online ‘footprint’ as an accumulation of all the stories, mentions, content and discussions about you. We connect meaningfully with your audience, journalists, influencers and industry experts. This gives search engines all the proof they’re looking for about you. Better footprint, better results.

And because we’re always thinking beyond links, and keeping you audience front and centre of our digital PR, our approach is water-tight and future-proof. It can withstand algorithm updates and social platforms coming and going, and lives on in a cookie-less world.

What are the benefits of digital PR to your business?

It can increase website traffic in (at least) 4 ways:

  1. Improved rankings for generic searches
  2. Increased branded searches
  3. Content discovery through related searches for purpose-built content, like tools, guides and blogs
  4. Clicks from links in high quality media coverage

It’s measurable: we can demonstrate ROI, inform smarter business decisions and lock down long-term investment

It can reduce a reliance on PPC spending over time, as you’re supplementing paid traffic with your organic presence in the SERPs (search engine results pages).

It cements your business as an authority in your sector: consistent earned media and PR coverage in publications your target audience reads and trusts reinforces your expertise and keeps you front of mind.

The result? More qualified traffic to your site, more leads and more sales. Marvellous.

brand-dots

What are the key tactics used in digital PR?

The essence of a great digital PR campaign? Amazing content that’s long-lasting and irresistible to your audience. Born out of (and validated by) insights and analysis, search demand and knowing your audience inside and out – it’s content that:

Gets talked about

Attracts traffic

Entertains, educates or inspires

Connects to your business

Other successful tactics can look and feel similar to identifying news angles in PR: commissioning a survey, desk research, compelling data hooks, stunts, reports and more.
